July 1997, Neil Lyon was reported drowned and missing in the Des Moines river near Farmington, Iowa. Members of All-County K-9 offered their services to the Van Buren County Sheriff's office. After two long, hot days of searching, Neil's body was recovered from the river. Friends and family members founded the Neil Lyon Memorial, an event held every August in Salem, Iowa. The Neil Lyon Memorial raises funds to support worthy causes within their communities.
The Neil Lyon Memorial has invited All-County K-9 to their event every year to show their support for the handlers and dogs who volunteer so much of their time and expense to provide their services to the State of Iowa.
A special thanks goes out to Curt and Deb Fett. Curt and Deb provided All-County K-9 with two 5-week-old Jack Russell Terriers, Neil and Nickel. Neil, named after Neil Lyon, has provided years of service to the team. He is an accomplished water search dog and excels in trailing and area searches as well. Neil is an invaluable part of the team and is expected to provide many more years of service.
Nickel, too, was trained to work but circumstances as they were, was not able to continue his career. Nickel contributed in his own way by bringing joy and happiness into everyone's life he touched. Nickel passed away in March 2005 as a result of cancer. Throughout Nickel's life, he aquired a large family who all miss him each and every day.
